We are not a hotel or a resort: our purpose is to reconcile people and the rest of creation to God by
serving the earth and the poor and for this reason we require at least a 1-2 day Service Project of all
groups who use our facilities and stay for more than one night. It's a way of saying thanks to our Belizean
neighbors and helping in the stewardship of God's creation. We'll work with you to determine which of many
local projects could best serve the aims of your group. This list is far from definitive - there are many more needs.
General Information These service trips are memorable experiences and in order to have a preferred service trip option taken into consideration, the group must contact Jaguar Creek via the Field Trips and Service Project Form found in the Leader's Manual at least one month in advance. A major exception to this would be if the group is coming through Target Earth's Teams Program - then the Teams Program would coordinate all service project activities with Jaguar Creek.Several Service Projects require reservations that must be made several weeks or months in advance. Groups must provide their own transportation. Jaguar Creek may or may not provide a staff member to assist your group for the entire length of the project - it depends on the length and type of Service Project. For day trips, a sack lunch is brought with you and eaten at the site. Service Project Materials Some building materials are scarce and it is necessary to order them, pay for them and have them delivered before your group arrives, so that the materials are there for you to work with while you are here. Because of this, groups may need to send some materials money to Jaguar Creek several weeks to a month ahead of when they arrive. There are also Service Projects that require little or no materials or the materials are provided.Jaguar Creek Area Jaguar Creek Reserve This is the original 200 acres plus the 500 acres newly added as a part of the Eden Conservancy deal. Jaguar Creek needs to develop management goals for this area, but first we need to know what is there. So research projects inventorying the flora and fauna and good map work need to be done. In addition, we would like to build a set of trails to patrol the area, an observation platform high in the canopy, and rope bridges over creeks. Material costs would vary for this option. Research into cave life and the fish population at the Blue Hole is particularly wanted. Trail work is an ongoing need as well.A Short Drive From Jaguar Creek The Eden Conservancy Property (A Jaguar Creek Ministry) Groups could assist the Belize Audubon Society to patrol and manage this 3400 acre piece ofland. Special needs are research and trails. Click here for more information about this site.Local Village Projects Jaguar Creek has had the most ministry experience in Armenia, but our staff also come from Ringtail Village and the village of St. Margaret is not too far beyond that. Click here for more information about Armenia.Armenia Development Center (A Jaguar Creek Ministry) Programs occurring at or through the Center include: a Dental Clinic, a Medical Clinic, Literacy and English as a Second Language classes, the establishment of a 3,000 volume Community Library and an Environmental Club, classroom use of the library, book donations and school supply donations. With the Center as a base, Mission and Service Groups have poured a church floor and painted it inside and out, built 1/2 of another church, built a new classroom for the school, and built a new playground. Click here for more information about this site.CREEK:Creation Related Environmental Education for Kids (A Jaguar Creek Ministry) Jaguar Creek has the curriculum and the expertise to help your group pull off a one or two day environmental education camp for kids in the villages of Armenia, Ringtail or St. Margaret. Environmental literacy is often very low and we can help these children to improve their understanding of both the creation and the Creator. With more staff we can go off site.Armenia and St. Margaret Schools Both schools need general maintenance and repair.Armenia Churches Most churches here, and in the US, have special projects that just don't seem to get done. Getting these things done for these churches would help their ministry to the people of Armenia. Some churches may also have social outreach ministries or activities like Vacation Bible School that a group could be involved in. General maintenance and repair may be needed. You may also be able to put on a concert, a play, a campfire, or distribute Bibles. We will match up the needs and your interests.
Belmopan Area Ministries Most churches here, and in the US, have special projects that just don't seem to get done. Getting these things done would help their ministry to the people of Belmopan. Some churches also have social outreach ministries or activities like Vacation Bible School that a group could be involved in.Kings Children's Home (A Jaguar Creek Ministry) Although KCH is an independent ministry and supported by others as well, Jaguar Creek has a high level of interest in this ministry. Click here to find out more about our involvement with KCH. As a Christian ministry, beyond general maintenance and repair issues, staff here have a burden to give each child individual attention. Possible activities would be organized games, reading aloud, help with schoolwork, a Vacation Bible School, help with chores and food preparation etc. This ministry is run on a shoestring budget and donations of money, food and books are always appreciated.Evangelical Bible Church A major project is paving the area between the Church Building and the Educational Building to be used as an all purpose court. The secondary project is to put up a new sign on the premises that identifies the church and gives the times for the various services.Roaring Creek Bible Church This is near Belmopan and the Gospel Missionary Union is assisting its development. This church needs an Education Building and Outreach Center. The need for additional space at the church is vital.Belmopan Governmental and Non-profit Organizations Many times these agencies have great plans in line with our mission statement to serve the earth and the poor, but not a lot of staff to carry them out. There are a wide variety of ways we could help them. We have contacts in each of these agencies, so talk to us here at Jaguar Creek and we will attempt to find the agency and project which best fits your goals as a group.
