Knowledge To Care for All God's Creation
Explore the critical issues of biblical stewardship in the Global Stewardship Study Program
(GSSP), a unique living and learning opportunity based in Belize.
Get ready for the challenge of exploring the interconnected dimensions of natural ecology,
human consumption, population, Christian discipleship, culture, and economics, under the
canopy of a tropical rainforest, diving on a coral reef, walking the corridors of government,
working with non-government organizations, and living amongst the Belizean people. You can
do all this, and earn credit toward you degree, during the Fall or Spring semester.
Through four months of study, reflection, discussion, research, travel, and cross-cultural living, GSSP will help you:
- Explore contemporary global issues in integrated and interdisciplinary courses that
draw from theological, scientific, ethical, sociological, cultural, and economic disciplines.
- Integrate your faith with personal lifestyle choices.
- Gain valuable experience in an internship/practicum that will equip you for future service:
in environmental work, international mission, relief and development, education, etc.
- Examine your career goals and interests.
Learning
Participate in a stimulating array of courses designed to broaden your knowledge and expand
your cross-cultural horizons.
Living in Belize
In Belize you will live in community at Jaguar Creek,
the Target Earth environmental research and educational center. Situated in rainforest contiguous
with the Blue Hole National Park, wildlife abounds in and around Jaguar Creek. Local inhabitants
include over 179 species of birds (including Toucans), Ocelots, Tapirs, Jaguars, Black Howler
monkeys, and Kinkajous, to name just a few of the species. Excursions to the Barrier Reef,
Mayan ruins, and other areas of interest in Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize will occur throughout
the semester.
Jaguar Creek's close proximity to local Spanish and Mayan speaking villages is ideal for language development.
